Children and young people with visual impairments
Highland Education Vision Support Service
The Highland Education Vision Support Service (HEVSS) works with visually impaired children and young people from the age of 3 in early years, primary, secondary and specialist settings where visual impairment is a contributing factor.
We work with other partners and support services to provide advice, training, and guidance on adapted materials to early education and school staff to help deliver the curriculum to visually impaired children and young people.
HEVSS works to the Vision Impairment Network for Children & Young People (VINCYP) National Standards for referrals.
HEVSS links with NHS Scotland. The VINCYP Network has developed a Pathway of Care in which Local Authorities, Health Boards and Voluntary Organisations can identify the services available to children with visual impairment in their area.
The aim of the pathway is to avoid delays in provision of support and improve partnership working.
