Benefits - Attendance Allowance

Attendance Allowance, sometimes referred to as AA, is a tax-free benefit for people aged 65 or over who need help with personal care because they are physically or mentally disabled.

You could get £54.45 or £81.30 a week to help with personal care.

You can get Attendance Allowance if you're 65 or over and the following apply:

• You have a physical or mental disability, or both
• Your disability is severe enough for you to need help caring for yourself, or you need someone to supervise you, for example, help with getting washed, showered or getting dressed

Normally you must have had care or supervision needs for at least 6 months to qualify.

You can get Attendance Allowance for your care needs even if no one is actually giving you the care you need, or if you live alone. Attendance Allowance is not usually affected by any savings or income you may have.
