Development guidance - Torvean and Ness-side development brief

The Highland Council is in the process of delivering a major new road link in Inverness.

The West Link is helping to connect people to the places they want to go, and to the services they want to use.

It connects pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles from Holm Roundabout on Dores Road over the River Ness to the A82, Glenurquhart Road at Tomnahurich Roundabout. 

Stage 1 of this road project is now complete and has delivered more than just a movement corridor.

It has delivered replacement sports and recreation facilities that have been well received by the city:

Stage 2 of the West Link project is now being prepared and will involve construction of a new road bridge over the Caledonian Canal and new roundabout that links a realigned A82 and General Booth Road.

A planning application has been submitted for this project and it is expected that, once approved, development will commence in 2019.

Alongside the road, the improvements made to sports facilities is creating new opportunities for development by releasing land no longer needed for the golf course.

Once the golf club vacate the existing course, land will become vacant for redevelopment.

Our job now is to ensure that this redevelopment is done right, and that starts with the planning stage.

The Torvean and Ness-side Development Brief has been guiding development across the area since 2013.

With these latest developments, it is important that this document is updated to ensure there is framework to guide this redevelopment so that these new places best serve the needs of our growing city.
