Development guidance - Renewable Energy Strategy and advice
-
Description
The Highland Renewable Energy Strategy was approved by us as Supplementary Planning Guidance. The main purpose of the document is to identify the capacity in the Highlands for a range of renewable energy targets and provide locational guidance and support economic development.
Accompanying this report is the associated Strategic Renewable Energy Resource Assessment for the Highland Area.
To comply with more recent national planning policy, we have prepared policies and guidance for onshore wind energy. These policies and guidance are incorporated in the Highland-wide Local Development Plan and Supplementary Guidance on onshore wind energy. In August 2016 the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Committee agreed that the Highland Renewable Energy Strategy will no longer be used as a material consideration, but that generation targets would be carried forward for monitoring purposes.
Hard copies of the strategy
The strategy is also available in paper form or CD. Map based software which facilitates selection of any 1km grid square in Highland and interrogation of the underlying layers which were used to arrive at the policy decision for that square is included on the CD. The CD is available to Community Groups through us at a cost of £25 or companies can get it from Aquatera at a cost of £250.
