Apply for a licence - Charitable collections taken in public

You need a licence to collect donations in public places for charity. If you want to collect donations in shops and supermarkets you must get their permission.

There is no fee associated with requesting permission to hold a collection.

Applicants must also complete the returns form and submit it, along with their application, to their licensing office.

An application must be:

• In writing
• Be signed by the applicant
• Made no later than 28 days before the proposed collection
