Flooding
Watercourse inspections and maintenance
The Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act 2009 require all Local Authorities to inspect bodies of water (watercourses) to determine if the condition of them may pose a risk of flooding. We employ a Watercourse Inspector who assesses the risk and sets the frequency of repeat inspections. These range from once a month to annually.
Scheduled Watercourse Maintenance Works Pending
If we identify works of clearance or repair which we cannot action immediately, we add this item of work to our Scheduled Watercourse Maintenance Works Pending list. Items on this list are considered necessary to substantially reduce the risk of flooding and will only consist of:
- Removing obstructions from watercourses
- Removing items that are at significant risk of becoming those obstructions
- Repairing artificial structures which form part of the bed or banks of a watercourse
Once an item is added to our pending list, a date for re-inspection is identified. We will continue to monitor the risk until the works are complete.
Every 2 months, we will publish Scheduled Watercourse Maintenance Works Pending list and Scheduled Watercourse Maintenance Works Completed list.
