School Nursing Services

The School Nursing Service in Highland provides professional care, support, and advice to promote health and wellbeing to school children aged 5 to 18 years old. The service endeavours to deliver safe, effective, and person-centred care based on the Getting it Right for Every Child Framework (GIRFEC). School Nursing has a continuing focus on prevention, early intervention and support to all families.

School Nurses in Highland are nurses who have undergone additional training to an advanced nurse level and who have expertise in the health of school age children and family health in general. School Nurse Teams support children and young people by promoting health and wellbeing and assisting children and young people to achieve their full potential.

School Nurse Teams are community based team members who carry out various health related duties such as running enuresis clinics, providing sleep support, and assisting with P1 checks. All team members can signpost to other agencies and offer help, advice, and support to families.

The School Nursing Service is available to all children and young people of school age, this includes children who are home schooled or are non-attenders at school, all families can access the School Nurse Service in Highland.

Young people can also contact the School Nursing Team directly for advice and guidance. Any information shared with the School Nursing Team remains confidential.
