Cold call control zones
Materials and costs
Once you have decided that your zone is to go ahead, you will need to begin sourcing the following materials:
Street signage
These signs will inform traders that they are in a Zone and that their trade is not wanted.
We can help you decide where the signs should be displayed amd can advise on a supplier. Our roads, flooding and street lighting service will also need to be contacted to discuss erection of the signs.
Sample street sign - can be customised
Door stickers
These should be double sided and displayed at the door or at the front of the property. The outward facing side will explain to traders that they are in a zone and that their trade is not wanted. The inward facing side should have information for the resident on who to report the incident to.
- A sample door sticker is available to view online as a flipbook
- Download sample - can be customised
Residents' information packs
Educating residents in the zone is crucial to its success. This can be done by issuing every household with a residents’ information pack. We recommend this contains:
- Introduction letter - Template letter - can be customised
- Buying on the doorstep booklet View online as a flipbook
- Nominated neighbour scheme information
Materials for this scheme can be found on the Police Scotland website - Doorstep caller checklist This can be used when a doorstep trader calls to note down specific details for example when they called and what they were wearing. Recording information in this way allows easy passing of the information to Trading Standards
When printing documents for the resident’s information pack, we recommend printing in colour where possible, particularly when concerning booklets and documents with logos. This will help to make your zone look professional.
