Launch of Carer Positive Policy
This week, Highland Council is launching its Carer Positive Policy whilst also giving its backing to the national Carers Week 2023 campaign.
As part of the launch of the policy, a drop-in session has been organised to take place on Microsoft Teams on Wednesday 7 June between 1-1.30pm. The session will cover key issues of the policy and how staff can register on the in-house Carer’s Register. Jennifer Campbell (NHS Highland) will also be in attendance and can provide a view from an organisation which already operates a carer policy.
Staff are invited to attend this drop-in session and can access it by using the link above or clicking here.
More about the Carer Positive Policy
Highland Council has formally launched its Carer Positive Policy this week in recognition of the number of individuals who undertake unpaid caring responsibilities alongside working for the Highland Council.
This policy is intended to create a working environment where unpaid carers feel valued and supported, whilst also acknowledging the importance of retaining experienced members of staff and reducing absence.
It is estimated that 300,000 individuals currently have caring responsibilities across Scotland and that a sizeable proportion of these individuals might also have workplace responsibilities alongside their caring commitments.
The policy, along with more information for staff, has been published on the HR Microsite.
More about Carers Week 2023
The week is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the vital contributions made by the several million unpaid carers across the UK.
It is an annual campaign and is designed to shine a light on the challenges unpaid carers face.
A further key aspect of the week is to highlight to those who perhaps do not think of themselves as having caring responsibilities who may be missing out on access to the wide range of support and financial entitlements available locally and nationally.
