Armed Forces Housing Options
We are committed to supporting members of the Armed Forces, Veterans and their families in accessing social housing and other housing options across the Highlands.
A veteran is anyone who has served for at least one day in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces (Regular or Reserves) or Merchant Naval Seafarers who have seen duty on legally defined military operations.
Members of the Armed Forces and veterans have several housing options unique to them.
Forces Help to Buy can help active personnel get onto the property ladder. Qualifying members of the Regular Armed Forces can borrow up to 50% of their annual salary, to a maximum of £25,000.
Veterans Housing Scotland is a nationwide veterans housing provider with properties in Fort Willian, Inverness and Nairn. They offer Contractual Tenancy Agreements with rents below social rent levels and are a great housing option for those who qualify.
To be considered for housing you must:
- have served in the regular armed forces or been deployed operationally as a reserve force member
- be disabled, which may be a physical or mental ill health disability and need not be attributed to your military service
Scottish Veterans Residences provides temporary supported housing for veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and has social housing available for let. They have accommodation in Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow.
If interested in these options, follow the links above or contact a Housing Options Officer for assistance.
