Dingwall Rock Challenge champs congratulated
The Dingwall and Seaforth Ward Councillors are delighted that the team from Dingwall Academy have been crowned the new Scottish Rock Challenge champions.
Four Highland teams from Thurso, Alness, Invergordon and Dingwall were among the 10 schools performing at Dundee’s Caird Hall on Friday night in front of a sold-out audience of 1700.
Dingwall and Seaforth Councillors, Angela MacLean, Margaret Paterson and Alister Mackinnon travelled to the Scottish finals to support the Highland teams so were there to cheer when Alness Academy came 5th, Invergordon Academy were awarded 3rd, and Dingwall Academy were named the new Scottish Champions.
Speaking today after the Ross and Cromarty Committee, the Ward members said: “This is a fantastic achievement and we’d like to congratulate all the Highland teams for doing so well. It was a great experience for us to be in the audience and all the teams were incredible but on the night the Dingwall team had the edge over all the other finalists.
“As well as the talented young performers, it’s a huge credit to the parents, staff, pupils and community volunteers who have put in so much time. The incredible commitment from everyone involved really shone through on the night with the new Scottish champions giving a stand out performance. All those involved, and the wider community, should all feel very proud. This is a fantastic result and many congratulations go to the new Scottish champions and all the Highland teams for their excellent and very creative performances.”
The teams from Dingwall, Alness and Invergordon now move forward in the competition to a north UK qualifying round, enroute to the UK Finals.
