Council Chair praises partnership working as National Entitlement Card Programme Office wins Scottish Transport Award

The National Entitlement Card Programme Office (NEPCO) based at Dundee City Council have won the Scottish Transport Award for Technology and Innovation.  This followed on from the successful completion of the travel card replacement project implemented by all 32 Scottish local authorities.

New cards were required due to advances in Smart card technology and new saltire branding.

Highland Council is one of the biggest local authorities and worked closely with NECPO to validate nearly 60,000 travel cards with more than 38,000  60+ and disabled cards renewed.

Chair of The Highland Council’s Corporate Resources Committee, Councillor Alister Mackinnon said: “Our congratulations go to NECPO on winning this award. In their acceptance speech they paid credit to all the hard work that every Local Authority put in over last year to make sure that no one was left without a card or their national travel concessions. Highland Council staff have worked closely with the company and built up a very good working relationship. I am sure that it is this effective partnership and collaborative approach that has provided such outstanding results. Everyone involved in this national project should feel proud of their achievement.”
