Busy time for Lochaber Schools’ Pipe Band
Earlier this month, Lochaber Schools’ Pipe Band hosted their first concert in many years at Lochaber High School. The band play at events throughout the year but this gave them the opportunity to showcase their talents in a different format.
As well as playing with the whole band, many members gave solo performances or played with small groups. The band has recently seen an upsurge in interest in pipe band drumming with a 14-strong drumming corps. This season, the drumming section is playing with new drums due to the generosity of a £10,000 grant from the Helen and S.G. MacGregor Bequest Fund. Joining the Band perform at the concert were Lochaber High School’s Ceilidh Band group and Lochaber Gaelic Choir.
The band has already started its busy summer season by playing at various primary school and nursery fun days and at the Pre-65 motorbike trials in Kinlochleven. The band also perform twice weekly in Fort William’s High Street throughout June, July and August only taking a break in the first two weeks of July or due to Lochaber rain!
Again, the band will be in attendance at the Arisaig Highland Games, the Mallaig and Morar Highland Games and the Lochaber Agricultural Show. A busy season awaits!
Further details about all the band’s activities can be found at www.lspb.co.uk or on their Facebook page.
