The public are being invited to join the local Countryside Ranger on the evening of Friday 1 September to discover more about the bats found living in and around Grantown-on-Spey.

Did you know that some species of bat use Anagach Woods as a place to live and find food? Have you ever heard a bat conversation? Do know just how many midges a bat can eat in one night? If the answer is no then why don’t you come along and find out more?

Saranne Bish, Countryside Ranger for Badenoch & Strathspey North said: “Anagach Woods and the River Spey provide lots of places for bats to hang out such as old trees, bridges and buildings as well as a good source of night flying insects for them to feed on so hopefully we should be able to spot a few bats on their nightly rounds.”

The evening, which runs from 8pm to 10pm, will start with a short talk outside at the Forest Road entrance to Anagach Woods followed by a walk through the woods and down to the River Spey. Anyone coming along is advised to  wear warm clothing and be prepared for inclement weather. Midge spray and a torch is also a good idea.

For further information please telephone 01479 873 914. Adults £3 Children/concessions £2. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

The aim of the Highland Council Countryside Rangers is to promote public enjoyment and appreciation of the countryside and to conserve wildlife.
