Dingwall Divers Swim For The Boat!
A team of seven members of Dingwall Youth Sub Aqua club completed a sponsored swim from Stromeferry to North Strome on Sunday 22nd April.
The crossing was made by two groups of swimmers. Each group took approximately 20 minutes to complete the journey. The pupils, all from Dingwall Academy, found the swim was challenging owing to cold water, tidal currents and deteriorating weather conditions.
The swim formed the culmination of a family day out with shore and water based activities taking place including snorkelling, riding an inflatable, lucky dip stall and other fund raising activities including refreshments. A group of fellow club members along with leaders and parents watched the swim taking place.
Diving Officer Jack Murry, a teacher at Dingwall Academy said: “The members are working hard to raise funds for the purchase of a rescue boat and this swim is only one of the methods we are using to help complete the funding required. A recent award from the Lottery fund along with awards from HIE , The Highland Council and others are helping us to complete the required funding. The members are greatly encouraged by the support shown by family and friends who have helped make today such a great success. We would like to thank those who are helping the club’s efforts through sponsorship and other means.”
