Council support for Skye Fairy Pools Project pays off

The Fairy Pools Project Group is delighted to hear of Minginish Community Hall Association’s successful Community Asset Transfer request to the Forestry Commission for land close to the Fairy Pools which are near Glen Brittle on the West Coast of Skye.

The Project Group was established by The Highland Council three years ago to try and address the problem of insufficient parking and amenities at this popular tourist spot. Co-ordinated and chaired by the Council it also includes representatives from Glen Brittle residents, Minginish Community Council, Minginish Community Hall Association and the Forestry Commission as core members and others as required including Police, SNH, HIE, Roads and Planning Officers.

Over the past three years the project group has carried out and supported a full options appraisal, feasibility study, community consultation, design work and had planning consent approved. The Highland Council has committed £100k to the project from the Town and Countryside regeneration capital fund pending a successful outcome of funding bids to LEADER and a number of other funders; the estimated cost of the overall project is in the region of £600k.

In addition to committing £100k to the capital cost of the project The Highland Council has also funded in the region of £50k over the past three years towards the cost of the Options Appraisal, Feasibility and Design works, a project Officer post for Minginish Community Hall Association and improvements at the entrance of the existing car park and the path network.
