Local pupils support Nairn Christmas lights switch on
Pupils from Nairn Academy, Cawdor, Millbank and Rosebank Primary schools are to have a starring role in the Nairn Christmas lights switch on this year on Friday 24 November.
Local Cllr Liz MacDonald for Nairn and Cawdor, who organised the event said: “There’s a fantastic line-up for the Christmas lights switch on which is supported by so many wonderful people across the community. Everyone is welcome from far and wide to switch-on in Nairn. I look forward to seeing a big turnout.”
The festive event kicks off at 5:30pm, when Santa’s Grotto opens at Castle Square on the High Street in Nairn, followed by a performance at 6pm from the youth-led community-based Penguin’s Tuxedo Street Band.
A ‘Super Choir’ comprising ‘The Accidentals’ a Capella Nairn community choir and pupils from Nairn Academy and Cawdor, Milbank and Rosebank Primaries will perform at 6:15pm.
At 6:30pm the Christmas lights will be switched on by two special guests of honour, Millbank Primary pupils Jessica Morris and Struan Fuller.
Sasha Richards will sing at 6:35pm and the Nairn and District Pipe Band will also strike up at 6:50pm. The evening’s festivities conclude at 7:30pm when Santa’s Grotto closes.
Cllr MacDonald said: “Nairn and Cawdor Ward Members are delighted to support this event with £1,000 Ward Discretionary funding. A huge thanks also goes to Nairn West and Suburban Community Council and Nairn River Community Council who have also supported the switch on with £300 contributions each.”
She added: “Charity Christmas trees will be on display in shops leading up to Christmas. Come to Nairn and explore our new walk-through advent calendar starting on the 1st December.”
Motorists are advised that Nairn High Street will be closed to traffic from 5pm – 8pm from Leopold Street junction, Gordon Street and Cawdor Street to the Post Office.
