​​​​​​​Are you ready for Storm Caroline?

Highland Council is issuing a warning to residents across the region to ensure that that they are ready for Storm Caroline. Advice on schools and general winter preparedness is provided below.

Highland Council is reminding pupils, parents and carers how to find out if their local school is closed or school transport is affected in anticipation of Storm Caroline hitting the north of Scotland.

Information on school closures is uploaded to the Council’s school closures website www.highland.gov.uk/schoolclosures from 7am each morning

School closure messages can be heard on the ‘school closures information line’ by phoning 0800 564 2272 (with a school PIN number) to get the latest pre-recorded message from the head teacher of your child's school. 

In case of power cuts make sure you have a copy of your school's PIN ready when you call by downloading the information now from www.highland.gov.uk/schoolclosures

The Council is aware that bus companies across the authority are assessing their plans for school transport. Any changes to school transport plans will be notified via the schools and the school closures website and information phone line.

The Council’s Community Services are also prepared for the potential impacts of Storm Caroline and are ready in case of flooding, and road closures as a result of fallen trees and property damage.
