Lochaber Woodwind musicians wow!
Nine students who receive music lessons from Highland Council woodwind Instructor, Karen Thomson in Lochaber High School and Ardnamurchan High School recently took Trinity College grade exams with outstanding results - 2 gained merit awards and 7 achieved a distinction mark, the highest being 97%!
These students all take part in group music making in Lochaber, in either Lochaber High School Junior Wind Band, Senior Wind Band, or the Big Band and several are current members of Highland Youth Wind Band.
The Lochaber Winter Bands' concert took place on Wednesday evening with a packed audience enjoying the varied musical offerings prepared and conducted by Council Music Instructors Karen Thomson and Mark Reynolds.
Council Music Development Officer, Norman Bolton said: “Young people around the Lochaber area are lucky to have many options for weekly tuition and also additional group music-making thanks to the efforts of Council Music Instructors throughout the area. These opportunities offer not only high quality music education, but many additional social and life skills which allow those involved to leave school with lifelong skills which stand them in good stead for their futures."
