Highland Archaeology Fortnight

Due to public demand, The Highland Council is extending its annual celebration of archaeology from one to two weeks

Highland Archaeology Fortnight will run from Saturday 1 October until Sunday 16 October, concluding with a two-day seminar on 15/16 October at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel, Church Street, Inverness.

At this time, the full programme has not been finalised, but it already looks like it will be another bumper year.  The programme will be issued in early September and copies will be sent to  everyone on the Council’s mailing list. The programme will also be posted on the website at www.higharch.demon.co.uk.

Anyone who wishes to be included on the mailing list should send contact details to the Council’s Archaeology Unit, Planning and Development Service, Glenurquhart Road, Inverness IV3 5NX or telephone 01463 702252.

New activities for 2005 include a children’s colouring competition and hopefully a heritage-themed photographic competition for all enthusiasts.

Dorothy Maxwell, the Council’s Projects Asset and Archaeology Manager, said: “As usual the event could not happen without the support of a large number of volunteers giving their time and expertise, so our thanks are offered in advance. If anyone wishes to volunteer but hasn’t yet contacted us, late bookings are always accepted.”
