New parking restrictions introduced in Inverness

Measures are being introduced next month to curb a significant increase in uncontrolled commuter parking in Victoria Terrace and Victoria Drive, Inverness.

From Monday 3 September, any vehicles parked in the designated areas of these streets, Monday to Saturday 8.00am to 6.00pm, must display a valid permit on their vehicle or be liable for a fixed penalty notice.  Parking bays for permit holders, in addition to double yellow lines, will be marked out to support the Order.

Residents of these streets can obtain permits from the Service Point in Church Street Inverness.

The addition of these streets to the Inverness Resident Parking Scheme is the result of complaints about a significant increase in commuter parking from local residents and representations by Highland Councillor Jimmy Gray.

Councillor Gray said: “As well as causing an inconvenience to residents and visitors, parking around the junctions has created access problems for emergency vehicles and a danger to pedestrians.  Hopefully the new restrictions will make life a little more tolerable for local residents.”
