Public invited to Commonwealth Day - flag raising ceremony
On 12 March 2018 people in Commonwealth countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, the Pacific and Europe will observe Commonwealth Day.
In Highland, members of the public are invited to join the Provost of Inverness, Councillors and guests outside the Town House, Inverness on Monday 12 March at 9:50am for a flag raising ceremony.
Over 50 countries will celebrate Commonwealth Day which will also be marked in Inverness.
The public will be able to view the event and traffic will be stopped during the ceremony between 9:55am and 10:05am while Provost of Inverness and Area Councillor Helen Carmichael reads the following affirmation and the Commonwealth flag is raised:
“Joining together as members of one worldwide Commonwealth community, and valuing the personal dignity and worth of every citizen, we raise this flag as a symbol of the ties of kinship and affinity that we cherish.
“We draw inspiration from our diversity, and the opportunities for working together, as a rich source of wisdom and a powerful influence for good in the world.
“We affirm our commitment to upholding the values set out in the Commonwealth Charter, to serving one another in a spirit of respect and understanding, and to advancing development, democracy and cooperation locally, nationally and internationally.”
