Former Provost William A E Fraser - tribute
Tributes have been paid to former Provost of Inverness William A E Fraser who died on Saturday 10th March 2018.
Mr Fraser was Provost from 1992 – 1996 serving as Provost in the last term of Inverness District Council.
He served as Councillor on Inverness Town Council, Inverness District Council, and Highland Regional Council.
In his final year as Councillor and Member of Highland Regional Council he served on the Planning Committee, Development Committee, General Purposes Committee, and the Highland Region and Western Isles Joint Valuation Committee.
Provost of Inverness and Area, Councillor Helen Carmichael said: “It is with great sadness that we heard of former Provost Fraser’s passing this weekend. Although I did not serve alongside him when he was a councillor, we met on many occasions at the Town House and he was very generous in sharing his knowledge and wisdom with me on his service as Provost and councillor to his community.
“I send my deepest condolences to his family on behalf of all staff and councillors who knew and served with him.”
Councillor Alex Graham, a former Provost of Inverness said: “Bill Fraser brought tremendous Council experience and extensive knowledge of the local community and the business environment to his role as Provost of Inverness.
“When serving with him on Inverness District Council, he was always courteous, thorough and fair-minded, with a determination to work towards finding solutions for the many challenges facing the Council then.
“The re-organisation of local government took place at that time, and as well as providing steady leadership in that process he also guided the District Council in the delivery of major projects such as Kilvean Crematorium, a site for the Inverness Caley Thistle stadium, and the Inverness Leisure Centre at the Bught which have been of lasting benefit to the City and the Highlands.”
