Nairn Town Centre Redevelopment

Members representing Nairn on The Highland Council are eagerly anticipating work starting on the construction of a new town centre supermarket in Nairn in the spring of next year.

Missives are being concluded between the Council and Somerfield for the redevelopment on King Street and an outline planning application is expected within six weeks.

Members were updated on the eagerly awaited project at a recent meeting.

Nairn Provost Liz MacDonald said: “We have been assured that officers have delivered the best deal possible and we are now looking forward to this project proceeding.  It will provide very much enhanced shopping facilities in the town  centre and stimulate further developments in the town centre.”

Somerfield are proposing to build a flagship store for Nairn of about 21,500sq ft gross - 14,500sq ft sales which represents an increase in size of about 60%.
