Over-bridge carriageway widening - B9006 Culloden Road
Road works are due to start east of Inverness on 21st May to widen Culloden Road’s approach to Inshes Roundabout.
A £0.5M contract has been awarded by The Highland Council to Wills Bros to carry out works to add an additional westbound lane for city centre traffic. The scheme will provide two continuous lanes for traffic between the Inverness Campus junction and Inshes Roundabout.
The works which are due to start on 21st May will last for up to 22 weeks.
Efforts will be made to keep traffic flowing through the junction. Delays on the route can be expected during the works; however the Council will work with their contractor to keep any delays to a minimum.
Pedestrians and cyclists should take note of the signage which will direct them through the works. Use will be made of the evening period when traffic flows are much lower; it is likely that traffic lights will be in operation in the off-peak periods.
Garry Smith, Highland Council’s Principal Engineer said: “We are aware of the sensitivity of this arterial route into the city and the provision of an additional lane will ease the flow of traffic into Inverness from the east. The pinch point on the A9 over bridge where traffic currently merges into one city-bound lane leads to driver frustration. The scheme seeks to remove this pinch point from the network.”
Signs will be erected on the road this week to give drivers advance notice of the restrictions.
