Highland schools mark Royal Wedding

A number of Primary Schools in The Highland Council area are marking the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle which is taking place on Saturday 19 May 2018.

Eight Highland schools are organising events in the run up to; on the wedding day and following the Royal Wedding.

The nursery at Bun-sgoil Ghaidhlig Inbhir Nis is holding a fund raising garden party in aid of The Highland Hospice to celebrate the Royal Wedding. The event will be held on Friday 18 May from 11am to 2pm and is open to parents and families of nursery children at Bun-sgoil Ghaidhlig Inbhir Nis. The event will be held within the Bun-sgoil nursery grounds.

On the wedding day itself from 12noon to 4pm on Saturday 19 May parents of Mulbuie Primary are organising a royal wedding themed fete where they plan to show the wedding on a big screen in the nursery building along with cream tea and elderflower cordial fizz.  There will also be a “design the wedding fascinator” competition. At this open event there will be hot dogs, ice cream, crepes, a raffle, and bottle stall, bric-a-brac, produce and plant stall, face painting, fun and games, a photo-booth, and beat the goalie.

At Kilchuimen Academy in Fort Augustus on Friday 18 May a group of S3 pupils will organise a Royal
Wedding ‘street party’ with a light luncheon in the school hall for S1 - 3 pupils and staff.  The S3 organisers will invite a guest (parent, grandparent or neighbour) to involve the local community.  As there are no SQA exams in the school that day - the occasion has created an opportunity for S3 pupils working towards their Saltire or other Wider Achievement awards to demonstrate leadership and teamwork skills.

On Monday 21st May Kilchiumen Primary and Nursery will hold a Royal Wedding afternoon tea for pupils and staff in an outer courtyard with a wet weather contingency plan in the school canteen.

At South Lodge Primary, Invergordon the school is holding their annual summer picnic on the Friday 18 May and the theme chosen is “The Royal Wedding”. The school canteen will be decorated in bunting with a themed lunch linking to the royal occasion. All children and staff will be invited to dress up in their finery for the day.

Also on Friday 18 May, Croy Primary will also be celebrating the Royal Wedding. The Pupil Council are asking everyone to dress up in their finery and prefects and house captains are organising entertainment. There will be a short assembly incorporating the Royal Wedding in the afternoon organised by P6/7.

Cauldeen Primary will hold a pretend Royal Wedding in Hilton Church on Friday 18 May at 11.30. The ‘bride’ and ‘groom’ and their entourage will be P1 pupils with the rest of the children, P1 parents and school staff as wedding guests. The wedding party will return to school for a wedding breakfast after the event.
