Meeting Demand for Building Warrants

To help meet the increasing demand for building warrants and completion certificates, The Highland Council’s Resources Committee has agreed to create three additional posts of building standards officer.

The new staff will be based in the Council’s offices at Dingwall, Fort William and Kingussie.

The committee has also agreed to regrade the post of building standards officer to assist with retaining and recruiting full qualified staff.

The cost of engaging three extra staff and the regrading of salaries is £159,000.

Throughout the Highlands, the Council has the full time equivalent of 29.5 building standards officers.

Councillor Drew Hendry, Chairman of the Council’s Planning Environment and Development Committee, said: “In recent times we have been experiencing difficulties in delivering building warrants.  Staff have been under enormous pressure to deal with demand. We are confident that the cost of the new staff can be met through our existing financial structure”
