In this report the Inspectors judged that most aspects of the work of the school represented good practice. They recognised the overall good quality of attainment in English language and mathematics and the good quality of teaching. They also identified a strong focus on pupils’ personal and social development, and on health education.
The Inspectors made a number of recommendations for the school which included ensuring continuity and progression in pupils’ skills in reading for information. The school was also asked to continue to improve pupils’ learning experiences and to ensure the school’s approaches to self-evaluation impact further on pupils’ learning.
The school accommodation and facilities were judged to be good however, there is a concern over the poor drainage in the playground.
Commenting on the report Mrs Lynne Caddell, Head Teacher said: "I am very pleased with the report as I feel that it reflects the positive ethos of the school, the opportunities we provide for all children to achieve, positive teamwork and partnership with the parents and community and our commitment to improving the school. Our thanks go to the children, parents and the wider community for their support during the inspection. My personal thanks go to a very committed team who work together to make the best provision for the children in Tore Primary.
"We have already begun to address the issues raised in the report with the continuing support of everyone connected with the school."
The chairperson of the School Board, Mrs Lynn Fraser also commented: “The report is very positive – a reflection, I think, of the partnership between pupils, parents and staff. The school has “survived” a period of instability and has made steady progress since the appointment of the Head Teacher. It is now well placed to continue to make improvements and progress in terms of the objectives set out in the report.”
