POSTPONED: Inverness footbridge to close for necessary repairs.

THESE WORKS HAVE BEEN POSTPONED (AS AT 20TH JULY 2018)

The Highland Council is informing pedestrians and cyclists that it is to close the suspension bridge from Bught Road to Whin Island from Monday 23 July for up to 6 weeks to allow contractors to make essential repairs to the bridge.

The Council apologises for any inconvenience that this will cause and is mindful of the fact that the closure is taking place throughout the summer, however the works are necessary for the essential maintenance of the bridge and the closure is for public safety. The timing of the refurbishment in the summer season is necessary as it provides the best weather conditions to get the work done safely with lower river levels.

Brandon Landscaping will be carrying out the works on behalf of The Highland Council for The Inverness Common Good Fund which owns the bridge. The refurbishment works include engineering, stonework and decking repairs and painting of the bridge structure and are part of an overall programme of works at the Islands repairing erosion, paths, bridges and tree works.

The Council also urges people visiting and using the Ness Islands and its bridges not to attach so-called ‘love’ padlocks or stickers to the bridges, lamposts, bins and seating as the padlocks cause rust and both stickers and padlocks damage paintwork. All existing padlocks and stickers will be removed as part of the refurbishment works and the Council’s plea is to leave no trace.
