Highland Council site investigation of former aluminium works, Foyers.

The Highland Council has today (Thursday) informed some of the residents and occupants in Foyers, Loch Ness, of a recently completed site investigation undertaken within the area of the former aluminium works.

Letters have been delivered to affected properties by staff of the Council’s Transport, Environmental and Community Services, who have been investigating land in Foyers as part of the Council’s ongoing inspection programme of potentially contaminated land in the Highlands (under Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act, 1990).

The letters provide an update following the review of a geo-environmental report detailing the findings of the investigation and a risk assessment carried out on behalf of the Council.

The initial conclusions of the investigation are that there is limited impact to site users given the current uses of the site. Further investigation and risk assessment have been recommended and proposals for this work are being drawn up. Those affected will be kept advised of developments.

These investigations are precautionary and given the initial findings of the investigation there is currently no evidence of immediate risk to the site occupiers or properties.
