Funding for pupils through Educational Trust
At today’s Ross and Cromarty Committee (15th August 2018), it was highlighted that the Ross and Cromarty Educational Trust reward opportunities have not been made full use of in the previous year.
The purposes of the trust are to:
- Issue prizes to specific schools
- Award bursaries to university students and apprentices
- Use any surplus income left after the above to create awards for educational excursions, sports, adult education and education in the arts
However, many prizes, bursaries and free income awards are undersubscribed. It has been agreed that how the trust promotes these awards is going to be modernised so that young people in schools are more aware of this opportunity.
At the committee it was agreed that ward councillors will work with the area Care and Learning manager in deciding successful applications.
Chair of the committee, Councillor Fiona Robertson said: “These awards can really help young people achieve their full potential and enhance their educational experience. I think it is a great idea that the chance to apply will be more widely promoted.”
