Stromeferry works public drop-in information event
The Highland Council is hosting a community drop-in event in Lochcarron on Thursday 27 September to provide an update on works underway to stabilise the rock face at Stromeferry and the associated traffic restrictions that are in place on the A890, to listen to concerns and consider any measures that may help alleviate the disruption.
Earlier this week the daytime road to rail bypass came into play for vehicles under 7.5T and details of the timetable are available of the Council’s website. https://www.highland.gov.uk/info/1523/transport_and_streets/104/stromeferry_bypass
Variable message signs have been erected on the approaches to the works advising drivers on when the road to rail bypass will next be open, toilets are also being provided as there have been some long queuing times experienced.
The event in Lochcarron Village Hall next Thursday will involve a public drop-in session between 2pm and 5.30pm where council staff and representatives from the contractor carrying out the work will be on hand to answer questions and go over details of the rail to road timetable. This will be followed by a sit down presentation from 6pm to 7pm.
Colin Howell, the Council’s Head of Infrastructure said: “During the drop in and following the evening presentation we will invite the community to provide their comments and questions so we can consider all the issues and give feedback on any new measures proposed.”
He added: “We are asking all road users to be aware that, despite the rail to road daytime diversion, there will be times when they will face longer waits so they are advised to plan their travel carefully, allow extra time and avoid the periods when the diversion is not available.’’
The Chair of the Council’s Environment, Development and Infrastructure Committee, Cllr Allan Henderson said: “We apologise for the disruption that some road users have experienced but we are trying to provide as much access through the works as we can. The drop-in session on Thursday is a good opportunity for anyone affected to ask questions, get more information about the project and pass on their feedback and any suggestions so I encourage folk to come along.”
