Skye Councillors congratulate Gaelic Ambassador of the Year

Eilean a' Cheò councillors for The Highland Council have welcomed the recent announcement at the Royal National Mòd that Eilidh Cormack is Gaelic Ambassador of the Year 2018.

Cllr John Gordon, Isle of Skye and Raasay Committee (Cathraiche) said: “Eilidh is a very worthy winner of the Gaelic Ambassador of the Year award, she is a great role model for the Gaelic language and culture and I am delighted her achievements and commitment have been recognised by her winning this award.” 

Cllr John Finlayson said: “I am delighted to hear of Eilidh’s success. Her interest in, and promotion of Gaelic, mirrors what she did even as a primary pupil when she attended Portree Primary School, where I was her Head Teacher. Eilidh deserves this award and as 2018 is Scotland’s Year of Young People, it is great to see a young, Highland woman receive this accolade and I wish her every success in the future.”

Cllr Ronald MacDonald added: “I was delighted to learn of Eilidh Cormack’s tremendous award. It is thoroughly deserved given how much Eilidh has already achieved in the Gaelic community and it is especially welcome on Skye where Gaelic remains such an important part of our culture. I wish Eilidh every success in her future career.”

The ambassador award was presented to Eilidh at the opening stages of the Royal National Mòd by Michael Russell MSP.
