Helping hand provided to Underwater Centre students and staff
The Highland Council is rallying to support four students who this week remain affected by the impacts of the Underwater Centre in Fort William ceasing to trade.
As of today (19 October 2018) the students find themselves homeless as they are being evicted from their student accommodation at the Underwater Centre.
The Council has responded by providing support. Local accommodation has been found for the students and the Council is providing financial and other advice on assistance available to them such as food bank vouchers.
The Council is in touch with partners such as HIE and DWP to try to establish whether there may be some help or assistance available through their organisations and is supporting the PACE initiative which is also helping the employees affected by the company going into administration. We understand that the former Underwater Centre staff are grateful for the help provided to them by the Council.
A statement on the Underwater Centre’s website states: “The Underwater Centre has ceased trading and is not taking any future bookings whilst we are placed into administration. If you would like to speak to our Student Advisors regarding a booking already made, then please call 01397 703 786.”
