Highland pupil receives national award for Geography

An Inverness pupil has received an award for achieving one of the highest marks in Scotland in the SQA Higher Geography 2018 exam.
Matthew Clark, S6 pupil at Millburn Academy, Inverness is one of 4 pupils who were acknowledged by the Scottish Association of Geography Teachers (SAGT) for the highest achieving candidates in SQA Higher and Advanced Higher Geography examinations.
Last month (on Saturday 26th January) at a ceremony held at the headquarters of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society (RSGS) in Perth; Dr Charles Warren, the Honorary President of SAGT and University lecturer at the University of St Andrews, presented pupils with a card, voucher and an atlas which was kindly donated by Harper Collins.
Following the ceremony, Chief Executive of the RSGS Mike Robinson gave the pupils and their families a tour of the Society’s collection, including their historic visitor books which include the signatures of names such as Roald Amundson, Sir Edmund Hilary, Neil Armstrong, Sir David Attenborough, Annie Lennox and Mary Robinson.
Councillor John Finlayson, Chair of Highland Council’s Care, Learning and Housing Committee congratulated Matthew on his achievement, he said: “Well done to Matthew on his award from the Scottish Association of Geography Teachers at the prestigious headquarters of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society. Millburn Academy and Highland Council are very proud of Matthew’s achievements and are delighted that his hard work and effort has been celebrated.”
