Highland Council Community Play Award 2019
The Highland Council, in association with Play Highland, are offering an award of £1000 to the group, organisation or community that has done the most to promote benefits of play for children this year.
The annual award is presented by the Council’s Play Improvement Group, which works to promote self-directed free play with daily access to the outdoors.
The 2018 award was won by Lundavra Primary School Nursery in Fort William. They provide an excellent range of self-directed and inclusive play that incorporates, loose parts, imagination and creativity at its core. The Play Improvement Group felt the Lundavra application demonstrated how included the children were in consultation, development, and the range of opportunities the children had to explore, develop and play.
The 2019 award is open to any school group, charity or community organisation working with children and young people at any age group from infants up to aged 18. Applicants for 2019 will be assessed under the following criteria.
- Promotion of inclusion
- Promotion/implementation of the Highland Play Strategy
- Promotion of free play
- Innovation
- Can we learn from it – is it transferrable?
