Contractor appointed for nursery extension at Ullapool Primary School

The Highland Council has awarded the contract for a new nursery extension at Ullapool Primary School to Morgan Sindall.

This will see the dilapidated former nursery classroom unit replaced by an extension to the school comprising two nursery rooms (one each for English and Gaelic Medium pupils), external play space, toilets, entrance/cloakroom area, office, staff base and storage.

The £1,150,000 budget for the project will be provided through a combination of funding from the Highland Council’s capital programme and from the capital allocation received from the Scottish Government to support the expansion of Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) provision for 3 and 4 years old by August 2020.

Work will start on site in April with the building due to be ready for occupation for the start of the October school term.

The finished building will enable the expanded ELC service to be delivered in modern, fit-for purpose accommodation.

Councillor John Finlayson, Chair of The Highland Council’s Care, Learning and Housing Committee said: “I am delighted that a contractor has been appointed to take forward this project which again shows the commitment the council has to delivering school projects in partnership with the Scottish Government right across Highland. I am sure the pupils, parents, staff and wider community of Ullapool will be delighted with this positive news and everyone will be looking forward to seeing the enhanced learning environment that will be made available to pupils, in the not too distant future.”
