Roads maintenance programme approved for Inverness area

At a special meeting of the City of Inverness Area Committee held today (Thursday 28 March) Members have approved the Council’s 2019/20 structural roads maintenance programme for the area.

The £830k budget has been re-aligned to reflect member’s priorities following a recent seminar focussing on roads maintenance. This will see a greater percentage of funding is directed towards arterial roads in the city and an enhanced surface dressing programme which can be undertaken by the in-house roads team.

Spending will be as follows:

  • £337,272 on 24 surface dressing projects
  • £331,310 on 10 resurfacing projects
  • £165,000 on footway and kerbing works and structural patching

Provost of Inverness and Area, Cllr Helen Carmichael said: “I am pleased that members have approved the revised priorities and work can start immediately, especially on surface dressing.”

Members will continue to press for a review of the current formula used across the Highlands for allocating road funding. They have also requested that all potential options for finding additional capital funding be thoroughly explored by the Council.
