Act now to secure your vote in the European Parliamentary Election

With the European Parliamentary Elections taking place on Thursday 23 May, Bill Gillies, Electoral Registration Officer for the Highland and Western Isles area is urging voters to make sure they are registered to vote in time.
He said: “”To vote in the European Parliamentary Election, anyone who has never registered or has recently moved must register by midnight on 7 May. The quickest and easiest way to register to vote is online at www.gov.uk/registertovote - it only takes five minutes.”
People only need to register once – there is no need to register separately for every election. You must re-register if you have changed address, name or nationality.
EU citizens wishing to cast their vote in the UK must be registered to vote and also submit a declaration form by 7 May.
Bill Gillies added: “If you haven’t received your poll card or are unsure whether you are registered, you should call the Electoral Registration Office on 0800 393 783 to check.”
The deadlines for registering to vote in the European Parliamentary Elections are:
- to register to vote – midnight, Tuesday 7 May 2019;
- EU Citizens declaration form due – midnight, Tuesday 7 May 2019;
- ·new postal vote applications (including postal proxy applications and for changes to existing postal or proxy votes) - 5pm Wednesday 8 May 2019;
- ·new proxy vote applications - by 5pm on Wednesday 15 May 2019
