Inverness High School to close for ‘flit’

Parents, carers and pupils are being informed that Inverness High School will be closed on Monday 13 May 2019 to allow the school to move to newly refurbished accommodation.

Pupils sitting exams on Monday 13 May will be unaffected and exams will proceed as timetabled.

The flit comes as staff and pupils move to new accommodation which is part of an extensive on-going refurbishment of the entire school.

Head Teacher John Rutter said: “Staff and pupils will return on Tuesday 14th to take up residence in the newly refurbished section of the school in the western end of the original teaching block. This includes new classrooms for English, Modern Languages, Maths and some space for Art and PSE.

“Staff will also be moving from the huts into the school and we are looking forward to the scaffolding being removed from the front of the school and a new coat of white paint to the building exterior.”

The Highland Council received special permission from Scottish Government Ministers to allow the exceptional closure of the school.

The refurbishment project is being managed by Highland Council’s Property Team in the Development and Infrastructure Service.

The total planned investment at Inverness High is £14.7M through the Council’s capital programme, with support from the Scottish Government’s investment programme (Scotland’s Schools for the Future) managed by Scottish Futures Trust.
