Celtic Media Festival Free Public Screenings
Celtic Media Festival is delighted to bring 2 talented filmmakers to Aviemore to screen their latest work. On Tuesday 4th of June, there will be a screening of the documentary Eminent Monsters, an essential examination of Scottish-born psychiatrist Dr Ewen Cameron and the darkest program of psychological experimentation in modern history. From the establishment of a mind control laboratory in Montreal and the humiliation and terror of Guantanamo, to the “Hooded Men” of Belfast seeking justice and reparation at the European Court of Human Rights, Eminent Monsters: A Manual For Modern Torture is an urgent call to the international community to right the wrongs of the past and protect us from a dangerous future.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Director Stephen Bennett and contributor Francis McGuigan.
After the Festival, Eminent Monsters will be screened at the United Nations Human Rights Council, 41 Session International Day in Support of Victims of Torture in Geneva on 26th June 2019, hosted by UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Professor Nils Mezler.
On Wednesday 5th June, the Scottish and European Premiere of thriller drama Dark Sense based on the best-selling novel First and Only by Peter A. Flannery will be taking place from 19:00 in the Macdonald Resort, Aviemore. In this film, a traumatized young psychic who can glimpse the future must do anything to stop a serial killer – even if it means being the murderer’s final victim. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Director Magnus Wake.
At both screenings, the audience is invited to attend a pre-screening welcome drink in the Macdonald Resort Auditorium Reception area.
Festival Director, Catriona Logan says: ‘We are incredibly honoured to be screening such important work from Scotland at our 40th Anniversary Festival. We are delighted to be screening the documentary Eminent Monsters ahead of its screening at the United Nations Human Rights Council and it is a privilege to host the Scottish and European Premiere of Dark Sense which was initially developed through crowdfunding. We look forward to seeing as many members of the public there.’
Highland Council Convenor and Chair of the Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee said, “It is a great honour to host the 40th Celtic Media Festival in the Aviemore area, included in the Festival Programme are free screenings of international films, I would encourage the public to come along and view the films and there is also the opportunity to meet the Directors.
