Call for Parental Involvement and Engagement (PIE) in Census

Parents and carers with children attending a Highland school are being asked to participate in a Parental Involvement and Engagement (PIE) Census.

Through the census the Scottish Government is seeking to collate comparable data nationally based on a set of questions that all local authorities have been asked to share with families.

Says Councillor John Finlayson, Chair of Highland Council’s Care, Learning and Housing committee: “Parents and carers are the most important influence on children’s lives and research shows that when parents are involved in their child’s learning, children do better and achieve more at school. The survey is now live in Highland and although parents can choose not to take part, we are keen to encourage as many parents as possible to respond to the census to ensure we receive a comprehensive view of parental involvement and engagement across Highland. The census will drive improvement locally and also inform the progress of policies at a national level.”

It will take approximately 10 minutes to complete the survey.  The closing date for survey completion is Friday 28 June 2019.

The census is taking place online using the SmartSurvey platform which offers many benefits including the secure collection, management and deletion of data. Indeed, preparations for the census have been rigorous to satisfy data protection legislation.
