Highland CHAMPS (Care Experienced Young People) challenged their Corporate Parents to a 5-a-side football tournament at the Canal Park/Rugby Club yesterday evening, Wednesday 26 June.

Even the sun turned up for the event and shone brightly for the players and spectators.

Corporate Parents including Highland Council, High Life Highland, Police, Fire Service, UHI, Health, Who Cares? Scotland, Calman Trust, Barnardos, Action for Children, Feish Rois, and Moniack Mhor took part, together with Foster Carers and their children and care experienced children & young people.

The tournament with four mixed teams kicked off at 5:30 on the pitches at Highland Rugby Club, followed by special presentations for the winning team and three players of the match and a BBQ.

The event was supported by ICTFC and Highland Community Planning Partnership Corporate Parenting Board. All players received a medal and the cup for the winning team was donated by Chair of Care and Learning Cllr John Finlayson.

This was another great event arranged by our CHAMPS to get to know and build relationships with their corporate parents and talk to them about improving services to meet their needs and improve their outcomes.

Chair of the Corporate Parenting Board, Councillor Linda Munro said: “Congratulations to everyone who took part. The tournament was a great success with support from Highland’s corporate parents who have shown a great commitment and enthusiasm to improving services for our amazing children and young people with care experience.”

Life Changes Trust is funding our CHAMPS Network across Highland with the aim of really improving the life opportunities for Care Experienced young people.
