Academy Street Inverness resurfacing – delays expected
UPDATE 09-10-19: Works on Academy Street are now expected to run until Friday 18th October due to the availability of road lining machinery.
The Highland Council is advising motorists and bus uers that resurfacing works to the east end of Academy Street, from the entrance to the Victorian Market round to the bus stop at Falcon Square will be taking place. The work will commence on Sunday 13th October 2019 and is expected to run until Thursday 17th October.
These works are likely to result in delays to traffic as the road will be reduced to a single lane which will be controlled by temporary traffic lights. Access for emergency services will be maintained.
The work site will be fenced off; however adjacent footpaths on both sides of the road will be available to pedestrians throughout the duration of the works.
The two pedestrian crossings at Station Hotel and Marks & Spencer’s store will be suspended during the works; however the crossings at Queensgate junction and Crown Road junction will remain in operation.
All taxi ranks on Academy Street, within the works area, will be relocated to Station Lane at the rear of the railway station temporarily during the works.
Advanced warning signs will be erected 1 week before works begin.
The bus stops at Falcon Square and Marks and Spencer’s store will be affected during the works. While every effort will be made to keep them operational as much as possible, they will have to be suspended when work is being carried out in the vicinity of the stops. When the Falcon Square stop is suspended a temporary alternative stop will be available a short distance farther along towards Crown Road junction. The suspension of the stop at Marks & Spencer store will require passengers to use a temporary alternative stop located on Union Street.
Highland Council apologises for any inconvenience during the works which will however result in a new and improved road surface on Academy Street.
