Early completion date confirmed for Stromeferry works

The Highland Council is pleased to confirm that the works underway on the A890 Stromeferry Bypass are due to finish earlier than planned and the road will reopen fully to traffic at 7am on Thursday 24 October – ten days ahead of schedule.

The rock scaling and netting works form part of an on-going programme of inspection and maintenance on the rock face adjacent to the A890 that involves replacing sections of the existing rock protection in areas identified during survey work carried out last year.

The contractor, appointed by the Council, Geo-Rope Ltd, have been busy on site since the start of September and every effort has been made to keep disruption for all road users to a minimum.

Traffic management has been in place since the 9th of September, with daytime convoys through the site and overnight road closures and one weekend closure.

The works were scheduled to last 8 weeks and were due to be completed on November 3rd.

Chair of the Council’s Planning, Development and Infrastructure Committee, Cllr Allan Henderson said: “Its great news that these essential works will be finishing ahead of schedule and the road can fully open from Thursday morning onwards.

“I would like to thank the council’s team and the contractors for their hard work keeping disruption to a minimum. Doing work on such a busy key route is never easy and a lot of planning went into this phase so I would also like to thank the local communities for their important input when we were scheduling the works and for their patience.”

Local Ward Councillor Biz Campbell echoed his thanks.  She said: “The council staff and contractors have done everything they can to keep traffic moving and I think it’s terrific news that the works will be completed early. The community consultation sessions held earlier in the year were very helpful so I would like to particularly thank everyone who took part.”
