Affordable Homes For Sale In Dornoch

Work began this week to build four two-bed roomed semi-detached houses in Dornoch which will go on sale at a fixed price of £60,000 each.

J & J Nicol, in partnership with The Highland Council, the Highlands Small Communities Housing Trust and Communities Scotland are providing the low cost housing for local residents who wish to become homeowners but are unable to afford the open market value of private housing currently for sale in the area.

The houses for local first time buyers will be built at Elizabeth Crescent, Bishopfield, Dornoch and are expected to be completed by the end of October 2007.

Local Councillor, Duncan Allan welcomed the initiative to build the houses said:  “Low cost housing for local people is just what we need and I am proud that Dornoch is the place where this new idea is being tried out.”

Di Alexander, HSCHT Development manager said, “ The Trust is delighted to be assisting the Council in the delivery of these badly-needed houses at very affordable prices – not only for the first time buyers but also for any subsequent buyers.’

Applications for the houses are now welcome and preference will be given to local residents who match the following criteria;

• They are currently tenants in a Highland Council or Housing Association House for a period of not less than one year;
• They are currently on the Highland Council Housing waiting list, for a period of not less than two years;
• They are able to provide proof of earnings within the range of £16,000 - £21,000.

Conditions will apply to an onward sale.

Anyone who is interested in applying to purchase one of the properties can get further information from the Dornoch Service Point or by contacting Housing Officer Sally Sutherland on 01862 812015
