Timetable for three General Election contests in the Highlands confirmed

The Highland Council has published the Notice of Election for all three Highland UK parliamentary constituencies which provides details of the timetable leading up to polling day on the 12 December.

Candidate wishing to stand have until 4pm on Thursday 14 November to submit their nominations. Nomination Packs are now available to download from the Council’s website – www.highland.gov.uk

The three constituencies are:

  • Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross
  • Ross, Skye and Lochaber;
  • Inverness, Nairn and Badenoch and Strathspey. 

To stand as a candidate in a UK Parliamentary General Election, you need to be at least 18 years old and:

  • a British citizen
  • a citizen of the Republic of Ireland
  • a citizen of a commonwealth country who does not require leave to enter or remain in the UK, or has indefinite leave to remain in the UK.

You must also not be disqualified from standing on the day of your nomination and on the polling day.

Anyone wishing to vote in the election at a polling station, using a postal vote or by applying for a proxy vote must ensure they are registered. The deadline to register to vote is Tuesday 26 November. The deadline to apply for a proxy vote is 5pm on Wednesday 4 December .
