North Kessock footpath upgrade

A £30,000 project to upgrade a popular public footpath in North Kessock is due to get underway next week beginning Monday 26th February for a period of six weeks.

The stepped footpath, which links the Tourist Information Centre car park with the village of North Kessock, next to the Spar Shop, is part of Highland Council’s Planning and Development Service capital programme of environmental improvements.

The footpath is currently well-used, particularly with tourists taking access from the car park down into the village, and it is also popular with locals as it links the village with the wider Ord Hill footpath network.  However, the condition of the steps is currently inadequate for the volume of users and during peak season it is difficult for users to pass comfortably. 

The up-grading works will include evening out the changes in level, replacing the existing retaining structures, improving drainage and also incorporating a viewpoint and bench.

Local Highland Councillor Isobel McCallum said: “I am delighted that the Council is able to invest in upgrading the footpath access to and from North Kessock. I welcome these improvements to access for walkers and visitors to the village of North Kessock. The new viewpoint will also be an added advantage.”

Access will be restricted during this period and advisory signage at the entrances to the path will provide details of alternative routes.
