Your vote matters

Voters in the three Highland constituencies for the UK Parliamentary general election of: Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross; Ross, Skye and Lochaber; and Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey are being reminded by Returning Officer Donna Manson that their vote matters.
On Thursday 12 December voting begins with all Highland polling stations opening their doors at 7am and remaining open for voters until 10pm.
To mark your vote in the general election simply mark a single X (cross) against your choice of candidate. Clear instructions will be on display in every polling booth and trained polling station staff will be on hand to answer any questions.
The general election count will take place overnight on Thursday 12 December, starting as soon after 10pm as possible, at Inverness Leisure, Bught Lane, Inverness.
Postal voters who have missed the post are reminded that they can hand in their General Election postal ballot papers to any of the Highland polling stations up until 10pm on Thursday 12 December.

Taking your poll card to the polling station helps, but don’t worry it if you forget it as you can still vote without it – just take yourself and vote.
Running the election for all three Highland constituencies is a huge operation involving many council staff from across the Council area. There will therefore be a reduced level of support for some non-essential council services on the 12 and 13 December while staff focus on election duties.
