Raasay Primary School recently performed their annual Christmas show to a packed audience of family, friends and community members.

The performance (held on Friday 13 December) was based on the famous fairy tale classic ‘Cinderella’ which inspired the children to develop their own ‘Raasay’ version.

The audience followed the story of the beautiful Ella as she contended with the trials and tribulations of her new step family. Magical mice pull out all the stops and save the day spreading love and magic to make all of her dreams come true.

Mrs Wilma Duncan, Head Teacher said: “This year some of our parents and community would have seen our pupils as they had never seen them before! With a school of only 6 pupils our P7 (and the only girl) was the obvious choice for ‘Raasay-Ella’ so it was down to the boys to rise to the challenge of taking on the role of the ugly sisters and step mother. This they did to their utmost, providing entertainment and laughter throughout the evening. I congratulate all pupils for their outstanding performance and for stepping up to the challenge with courage and good humour!

She added: “I would like to extend special thanks to everyone who made the night a success and in particular to staff for all their hard work and the Parent Council for refreshments. The whole school community rose to the challenges of a full production – writing scripts, creating scenery, using a sound desk and lighting, developing professional staging, sourcing costumes and providing make-up.

“The production formed pupils’ key assessment within Expressive Arts and Literacy and we take a holistic approach to the development of pupils’ skills and success criteria in this area. Thank you to one-and-all.”
